Since its founding year, the Academy membership has consisted of Fellows, a distinguished group of physicians, academicians, and other health professionals involved in issues relevant to the health of the public. Fellows of the Academy now number more than 2,200.

Benefits of Fellowship

In addition to the honor of being recognized by one's peers as a leader in health, medicine, or biomedical science, Fellowship in the Academy provides the following benefits:

  • the opportunity to participate in one or more of the Sections of the Academy with discounted registration fees and continuing medical education credits for attendance at programs

  • priority access to the Academy's world class medical Library, with special privileges including service hotlines, in-depth reference assistance, on-line searches, photocopy and document delivery services, advance preparation of materials, and borrowing privileges

  • access to the extensive collections in the history of medicine

  • training in computer on-line searching of the medical literature and information resources on the Internet

  • a subscription to A Journal of Urban Health: The Bulletin of The New York Academy of Medicine

  • the opportunity to participate in discussion of issues relevant to enhancing the health and well being of the public and the health-related professions

  • access to presentations by leaders in medicine, science, public health, health policy, and health care delivery

  • receipt of the various publications of the Academy, including newsletters, special communications, monographs, and the Annual Report
